S. Kaye Harrison, was born in Water Valley, MS, but grew up in mid-town Memphis. She attended Memphis City Schools and Memphis State University. She studied art with many local and nationally known artist; Paul Penczner, Elmer Blalock, Ken Backkas, David Leiffel, and currently studies with colorist Sammy Britt.
Kaye, a working artist, is a member of the Mississippi Studio Group, DeSoto Arts Council, advisor for the Sycamore Arts Council and co-founder and past President of the Artist Network of North Mississippi, Inc.
Kaye’s love of art extends not only to her own work, but her conservation/restoration of damaged original works of art. She can also be found teaching adults and children in her studio/gallery. The Gallery, known as the Artist Workshop Gallery, features the artwork of local artists, visiting artists and many of her students work as well as her own. The Gallery also has antique prints, furniture and investment art and is open by appointment only.
Kaye donates time and talent to community fund raisers, such as the Baptist Hospital Cancer Center, the Community Foundation, Hernando Historic Museum, Make a Wish Foundation, St Jude Children’s Hospital, the Orpheum Theater, and many others around Mississippi and Tennessee.
Kaye’s art work is on exhibit and available for sale at the Historic DeSoto Museum, Hernando, MS, Tunica Museum, Tunica, MS and in the fall, the E.E. Bass Cultural Center, Greenville, MS. Her work can be found in many private and corporate collections.
